About Me
I probably would say I was born an artist. My creativity is inspired by the minds of those who face life’s challenges head on and through determination live a full existence. My life challenges are dyslexia and OCD. In fact the backwards e (Э) which I often use in my name (Pэrera) embraces my dyslexia and is highlighted by the fact it means "there exists..." in mathematics - without art I feel I cease to exist!
I’ve been visually expressing myself since I was five. It was always more than a pretty picture, it was the way (the only way during my formative years) that I communicated. Besides the imagery, the other influence in my art are the words. These words stemmed from my grandmother (Amma) writing down, if you will, affirmations to make me understand I wasn’t stupid, just different. I am proud and humble to reclaim old canvas and dumpster dive for broken glass – my works are a reflection of my life, always being reused, adopting innovation and accepting imperfection.
